History of Bendoc Rural Fire Brigade
The Brigade was formed in 1946. People instrumental in the formation were Elvyon Jamieson, Doug Nichol, Bob Cameron and Jack Mustard.
The Brigade first registered with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) 10th May 1948 - First Registered List Append.
When first formed equipment consisted of Knapsacks and Hand Tools - Stored in the Court House at the Hall. At a later date, equipment was upgraded to include a Trailer Unit.
In the late 1960's, the Brigade received it's first Firefighting
vehicle, a Willey's Jeep 4x4 Reg. No. GUP-869
1970 - the resignation occured of Graeme Healy - he joined the CFA and rose through the ranks to become Assistant Chief Officer until his retirement.
1975 - saw the selection of a site for the Fire Station
1978 - The Willeys'was upgraded with a new Tanker - International
1400 4x4 Reg No KST 459 and the fire
station was constructed to house the new vehicle.
- The
issue of the first radio licences were issued for the Base Station NZ 41
and the appliance NZ 42.
- Elvyon Jamieson
was awarded the Queens Long Service and Good Conduct Medal for his services
to the Brigade.
1980 - A new radio base station was installed on Mt. Delegate with Geoff and Jan Groves being appointed the Communications Officers.
The radio network schedules (scheds) included a number
of other areas:
NZ Network - Bendoc, Bemm, Bonang, Marlo, Newmeralla,
Orbost & Wairewa
GL Network - Buchan, Gelantipy
TC Network - Cann Valley, Combienbar, Mallacoota
1982 - 17th April, the Deputy Chairman of the CFA, Mr. Don McArthur presented the Queens Long Service and Good Conduct Medals to Keith Bent and Doug Nichol in recognition of their service to the Brigade.
1985 - Reg Nelson transferred to the brigade from Langwarren Brigade, where he and other brigade members formed the Mt.Delegate Group.
1993 - The Brigade was upgraded with the supply of the
current fire tanker a Hino 2.4 D Tanker
1995 - Preliminary works commenced on the construction
of the new station
- The building
was handed over after construction by Bennett and Linaker
on 20 December 1995
1996 - Completion of the new Station - 1st Station in the State (Victoria) of the 1 A 1 design with a Group Headquarters attached.
