Bendoc Information Terminal
The Bendoc Progress Association Inc have been
successfully in receiving a grant from the Networking the Nation for an
Internet Café` to be called BITE = Bendoc Information
Terminal.
This grant will provide an Internet Café
for the region and also have coffee for sale. This venture has to be sustainable
long term to be a viable concern. It is an added bonus after the Rural
Transaction Centre where BITE will be housed. BITE will provide access
to the computers on a regular basis for all the community. The opportunity
for online education will be available as distance is a problem but there
is no reason why Bendoc and the region should miss out.
This will be incorporated into the Skills.net
project where the coordinator has a contract to train community members
from Victoria over the age of 15 years of age how to use Email and how
to make a web page. Bendoc has so much to offer and the world is not that
far away via the Internet.
BITE will be using the PoP at Tubbut as it is
the local call access. It has been going now for 12 months and even though
there have been problems with it the more clients less problems should
exist.
BITE will give the community an opportunity that
did not exist before and a cheap access to the rest of the world.
