Blackspot TV Fund
The application to the TV Blackspot Fund is still going on and now waiting
to see if Delegate wants to be part of the application through a survey
being conducted by the DPA. Information is still being sought from the
Shire in relation to number of permanent ratepayers in the Bendoc area.
A request has been sent to the Victorian Police Communications for access
to the Police Tower. They are waiting for approval from the NRE for access
to the tower.
Coverage of the TV will depend on what transmitters can be sourced
for $125,000 for four stations. The proposed stations are Imparja (TEN),
Central West (PRIME), SBS & ABC.
At the moment those who receive TV are not suppose to, as Bendoc is
in a remote licencing area and are receiving it by good fortune resulting
from a regional transmitter.
Ongoing Costs
Ongoing costs for the equipment will amount to an annual fee for all
who use the service. These costs will be for maintenace of the transmitters,
rental of tower and insurance of transmitters against the weather and vandalism.
This should not be expensive.
Choices
Unfortunately there is no choice. The TV stations are Imparja, Central
West SBS & ABC or nothng as part of the Blackspot TV Fund. The stations
should be coming from Victoria as Bendoc is part of Victoria but due to
the terrian the cost structure does not make it viable for the service
Bendoc Memorial Park News
The Bendoc Memorial Park Committee is calling for help from members
of the community to help them spend some money.
The remainder of a NRE/Parks Grant will be handed over from The Bendoc
Progress Association to the Park Committee soon. Our committee would like
the members of the community to come up with some ideas as to how the money
should be spent. Some money was raised in the way of a firewood raffle,
with the grand total of $573.00 earned to help with the park funds.
We would like to thank all those hards working men who gave their time
to cut the firewood, Mark Bruce for donating the use of his truck. Wendy
Bruce for taking the time to sell tickets, and to Toby Black for putting
up our committee members accosting his customers as they left his store.
A big thank you to all who bought tickets, as this would not have been
the success it was without you
We would also like to congratulate Toby Black whose lucky ticket was
plucked out by Wendy Bruce
The Parks Committee members have a few suggestions as to how
they would like the money spent. Such as, a glass fronted display board
depicting the history of the town. This could relate the story of the pioneers
from the gold era, the timber industry and the farming community. Alongside
would be a map highlighting places of interest.
There is also a steam engine, which could be made available. When displayed
would blend in with other pieces of machinery already present. An electric
barbecue would be very handy especially on total fire ban days.
You might agree or disagree with these suggestions, or you may have
some ideas of your own. We would be interested in hearing them.
You can send any suggestions you have to the Secretary of the
Park Committee on 64581222 or 64581462. You may even like to
have your say at our next meeting, which will be advertised in due course.
