Project Summary:
Government funding will be used to establish and operate a Rural Transaction Centre in Bendoc, which will service the people living and working in the local district. It is anticipated that the following services will be provided: public Internet, access to government services and tourism information; Internet café; interactive Centrelink website, and face-to-face bi-monthly contact with a Centrelink officer; serviced offices for visiting professionals; photocopying/faxing facilities; local Council information service; and VicRoads service on a part-time basis.

Having obtained the grants, signed the contract with the Department of Regional Transport and Services for the Rural Transaction Centre (RTC) and money deposited in the account, the Department put a  hold on the RTC via phone in the afternoon of the  23 February 2001. In the morning, money was handed over for the first installment of the mobile house for the RTC from Clifton Mobile Homes and a contract was signed.

The reason why it was put on HOLD was because of some community  do not want progress in Bendoc.

Imagine how a community which has never received a grant of this size before felt, because  some of the community  said it would not be viable, there is no need for another building in town (there are no shops) and it was not needed.

Imagine how the community who fought hard in the early seventies  for power to the area and who now fought for a RTC,felt this project will  provide an infrastructure well after the logging has finished, an infrastructure that would support more people by providing services and education Online well into the new century.

Imagine why a community who has fought the politicians for a grant that will turn things around for not only a small community but for all communities with the will and determination to win.

A community meeting was held on 4 May at the Bendoc  Community Memorial Hall for the final outcome with                          Mr. P. McGauran MP Federal Member for Gippsland (See story) which was an outstanding success for a Rural Transaction Centre in Bendoc and the wider region.

On the 16 May 2001 the Advisory committee had its first meeting with five Bendoc Progress Association Inc members and five members from the community, chaired by a Field Officer.

Well, things have happened since then and we are well on the way to having a Rural Transaction Centre. The proposed arrival date is in the seccond week of December  2002 with the pads being poured Friday 29 November 2002.
