Country Labor conference to converge on Cooma

Pambula Bridge and the Mogo charcoal factory are among the concerns and issues affecting people in south-east NSW which are being presented to the annual country Labor conference in Cooma this weekend.

NSW Premier Bob Carr, along with several State Government ministers, will be among 300 delegates to the conference.

It is the largest gathering of rural NSW Labor Party members before the state election next March.

The Labor candidate for the seat of Bega, Wilma Chinnock, says it is time for country voices to be heard in the determination of policy and practices.

"There are the big issues, I guess, like the shooting complex at Narooma and the charcoal plant, but on a really positive note, we're taking a petition to [the] country conference calling upon the Federal Government to complete the funding for the bridge at Pambula, so that's a tremendous step forward for our local Labor people," she said.
