Premier should be thankful
Illawarra Mercury 25 September 2002
"....And Mr Carr's image as a green premier
was taking a severe battering at the hands of the well-organised
and articulate protest campaign. Using the Opposition as a whipping
boy won't fool anyone, particularly the community who fought
so tenaciously against the project. Instead of trying to score
cheap political points, Mr Carr should be secretly thankful for
the decision to kill off the charcoal plant. " |

A very red-faced shade of green
Sydney Morning Herald 27 September 2002 by Felicity Wade
"John Brogden has challenged Bob Carr over
the principles that put him in power. So just who is saving the
environment? Felicity Wade writes.
THE death of the controversial charcoal factory on the South
Coast this week has flushed out an important shift in NSW politics.
For the first time in memory, the state's Opposition Leader has
stolen part of the environment front from the Government and
the Premier, Bob Carr, is terrified." ....

Silly con has cost NSW millions
Sydney Morning Herald 26 September 2002 by Miranda Devine
"John Brogden's opposition to the charcoal
plant shows the immense power of green lies.
RARELY has there been a more sickening sight in politics than
the NSW Liberal leader John Brogden marching on Sunday in a greenie
protest against a South Coast charcoal plant. Surrounded by professional
greens from the Wilderness Society, upper house MP Ian Cohen,
and the usual anti-capitalism protesters recruited from the Internet,
the Opposition Leader pledged: "I will not let this charcoal
plant go ahead if elected in March." ....

Brogden lost in the political wilderness
Sun Herald 22 September 2002
JOHN Brogden yesterday went where no other State
Liberal leader has dared go before on to the barricades with
the Greens, the Wilderness Society and the tree huggers.
With the State election just six months away today, he flew to
Batemans Bay on the south coast to address the "Charcoalition"
rally to oppose the construction of a charcoal plant at the nearby
township of Mogo.

[The article appears to be an anti Liberal story rather than
a report on the rally. It insults the local community and others
at the rally. The Article does not reflect the event at all.
This was a momentous occasion and the Sun Herald has failed to
report the issue. The heckling of John Brogden was from a minority
of over 4,000 people who attended the rally. John Brogden at
least showed up to support the local Liberal candidate and promised
that if the Liberals were elected that they would stop the Charcoal
Factory.... Charcoalition] |
