Brian reports that "Lithgow's rural beauty and handy location are reaping rewards." And that "some say the town has been in decline since the loss of the steelworks nearly a century ago, with almost all of the big employers shutting up shop since."

But, he says that "from a town long down at heel, the wheel is starting to turn. Unemployment, at 4.9 per cent, is well below the national average, and a number of small companies are looking at relocating from Sydney, pushed out by spiralling property prices. "
