Business Review Weekly

Dear Sir, Tim Treadgold (Uncertainty clouds a silicon dream BRW 28 Feb 2002) has missed the point if he considers the opposition to the proposed charcoal plant at Mogo to be merely "environmentalists' protest".

The protest comes from all sectors of the community. The tourism industry, real estate agents (hardly traditional tree huggers) and the Shire Council to name a few are all opposed to the project.

Management, shareholders and bankers of Australian Silicon would be wise not to underestimate the depth of feeling in the community about this project and the impact this will have on its profitability - if it goes ahead.

Your sincerely John Rumble

ESC Minutes 5 March 2002
CQWN2 Councillor Brown posed a question in relation to the proposed Charcoal Plant.

He has spoken to a rural property owner from Braidwood. He is prepared to give land for the charcoal plant which is free of charge except for their payment of rates. Councillor Brown indicated his enquiries of the Council there supported the proposal. Can this Council consult with this property owner so that if people in the Braidwood area want it they can have it. Councillor Brown provided details of the owner to the Director, Environment, Planning and Administrative Services, to follow up.

The Director, Environment, Planning and Administrative Service, advised he would contact the owner and report back to the committee, indicating the offer should be checked through Tallaganda Council and referred to ASPL and planningNSW.
