A major donation of books to all schools and public libraries has been made by the Coastwatchers Association this week. The books are being distributed throughout the shire for students and the general public to access.
"The themes of the books are environmental education," said Sheila Monahan, Vice President of Coastwatchers. "We have purchased these books to allow students and the public to discover the wonders of the natural world in the Eurobodalla."
"For primary school students we have donated two books to each school, on the subjects of climate change and marine life. These can be used for projects or identifying the creatures found along the foreshores or in the ocean of the South Coast."
"Similarly for the secondary schools we have provided a young adult version of Dr Flannery's latest book on climate change and an excellent reference book on the marine life found in temperate waters of Australia."
Mrs Monahan continued, "We hope that these books will be utilised by the students to assist them in their studies and stimulate discussion amongst their peers about these important subjects. Each library in the shire will have a copy of Australian Marine Life by Graham Edgar and I encourage library users to refer to the book and discover the diversity of marine life found in our oceans."
"Who knows these additions to the school and public libraries may foster an interest in the students to continue their studies in the natural sciences and follow a career that helps to make our planet sustainable into the future."
