NAROOMA GEARS UP FOR AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST COMMUNITY DAY OF ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE

‘There is a buzz in Narooma and surrounds as local residents plan for Australia’s largest grassroots climate change event, Walk Against Warming,’ Coastwatchers Association spokesperson Sheila Monahan said today.

‘Walk Against Warming provides a platform for all Australians to be united in calling for greater government action on climate change. If we don’t do something now to stop climate change who will?’

The Narooma walk is being held at 11 am on Saturday 10 November. It will start from the Water Tower/Uniting Church and follow a 2 kilometre route to finish at Quota Park. It is organised by The Coastwatchers Association, Eurobodalla’s peak environment group with the help of the Get Up Narooma group.
‘We are hoping that many residents will walk at our local event and join the hundreds of thousands of other people expected to turn out across the country,’ Mrs Monahan said.

Walk Against Warming is being coordinated by the Nature Conservation Council of NSW.

‘Climate change is the most pressing issue of our time. Without community pressure our political parties will not take the action needed to make real cuts to our greenhouse gas emissions,’ said Cate Faehrmann, its Director, ‘this is particularly evident this year, in a federal election year.’

‘Already many people across Australia have shown how committed they are by changing to low energy light globes, signing up for Green Power and reducing their energy use in the home. Now the Federal Government needs to match our commitment and make sure Australia starts to act responsibly on climate change,’ Ms Faehrmann said.
