BATEMANS BAY GEARS UP FOR AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST COMMUNITY DAY OF ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE
There will be a ‘Walk Against Warming’ on Saturday 10th November beginning at the Hanging Rock Library at 10am. This event will follow the cycle way to town and end at the Clyde River bridge.
Coastwatchers President, Mark Fleming said, “Walk Against Warming provides a platform for all Australians to be united in calling for greater government action on climate change. If we don’t do something now to halt human induced climate change then who will?”
The Batemans Bay walk is being held at 10 am on Saturday 10 November. It will start from the Hanging Rock Library and follow a 2 kilometre route along the Clyde River to the Bridge. It is organised to coincide with other walks in Australia designed to send a strong message to all political parties about climate change.
“Last year we had around 70 people walking and we hope to increase the numbers participating this year. We are hoping that many residents will walk at our local event and join the hundreds of thousands of other people expected to turn out across the country,” Mark Fleming said.
He continued “Climate change is the most pressing issue of our time. Without community pressure our political parties will not take the action needed to make real cuts to our greenhouse gas emissions”.
“Already many people across Australia have shown how committed they are by changing to low energy light globes, signing up for Green Power and reducing their energy use in the home. Now the Federal Government needs to match our commitment and make sure Australia starts to act responsibly on climate change.”
