The Coastwatchers Association is calling on the State Government to assess all the proposed developments in the vicinity of the corner of the Princes and Kings Highway, Batemans Bay together for their cumulative impacts.
The Association is concerned that the projects will have negative impacts on traffic congestion, water and sewerage infrastructure, and the nearby wetlands.
The developer of the Bay Waters Inn site also wishes to take over 2158 sq metres of public foreshore land. This is totally unacceptable to the attributes of the northern shore of the Clyde River.
The President of Coastwatchers, Martyn Phillips says, There is a lot of development about to happen in Batemans Bay that people are not aware of and therefore do not have time to comment on.
He continued, Coastwatchers has written to the State Government and asked that the details of development proposals that are to be determined by the Minister or his department be made easily accessible to the public by having extra copies in the Shire libraries. Ideally the plans should also be available on the departments website.
Weve also requested that the department or Council maintain a data base of these proposals on their web sites. At the moment no one appears to have a comprehensive list of the developments planned for our shire or what has happened to those that were lodged some time ago.
Coastwatchers and many residents believe that the infrastructure of the shire is stretched to the limit and the many developments proposed for the near future should be postponed until they can be satisfactorily serviced by water and sewerage in the long term.
