SUBMISSION ON THE DRAFT EUROBODALLA SOCIAL PLAN 2005-09

The Draft Eurobodalla Social Plan 2005-09 has capably identified core problems that need to be addressed in order to enhance community health and well being. It will provide a good framework for the development of strategies and plans to implement strategic objectives for Council during this decade.

Coastwatchers wholeheartedly agrees with the statement that "Community well being is influenced by the quality of the environment". We urge Council to endorse the suggestion that residents and visitors be educated about the link between environmental health and community well being.

Indeed, we believe that, in the statement beginning "Educating residents… (listed on p74 of the Plan under Environment Pressures), the word "could" ought to be replaced by "should".

We also recommend that an Action specifically related to education be included under Direction 9 on p. 75 of the Plan. A greater understanding of this link within the community is likely to increase the numbers who volunteer for groups that promote environmental preservation.
