Dear Sir,

DRAFT PLAN OF MANAGEMENT SURFSIDE BEACH FORESHORE RESERVE
REFERENCE: 04.8527

The Coastwatchers Association congratulates Council on the Draft Surfside Beach Foreshore Reserve Plan of Management.

The Plan is a practical approach to the effective management and the rehabilitation of the Foreshore Reserve. It has successfully integrated community desires with environmental, cultural, recreational and visual principles.

The replanting of native coastal vegetation to provide an attractive visual buffer between the beach and private residences, and to enhance wildlife corridors is a welcome initiative and will greatly assist in the stabilisation of the foreshore dune system.

Dunal protection is vital, considering the vulnerability of the location to coastal hazards, such as erosion, as identified in The Batemans Bay Coastline Hazard Management Plan and the predicted impact of sea level rise.

Coastwatchers supports Council's initiative to work effectively with the community to provide a worthwhile outcome for the protection and enhancement of the coastal environment for future generations, in keeping with the desired Nature Coast image.
