HAUNTED OCEAN

Oh you lap my oars
Shuddering silver
'Gainst fathomless shores
Your shipwrecked mountains
Fight silent wars
'Gainst rust and decay

But my lifeboat weighs
Upon your conscience
So you make a wave
And throw me back to earth
To tell the tale
Of the haunted ocean

[Solo].

I wake on sand, my body bare
Unsteady land rocks my despair
I am the last
I am the first
To know the story
The people came, the tall ships sailed
The boats all sank, the plans all failed
The brave men tried
And people died
But still they came back
Yes, they came back

[Solo].

Oh the hungry beasts
The swimming lanterns
And the bloodied feasts
So red of tooth and fin
'Til legs were spawned
And crawled from her embrace

Now the beasts come back
And split the atom
Float ships of waste
They rob the jewels
And net the strange children
Of the haunted ocean

I walk to town, far from the waves
I see the stalls and merry slaves
Dead gaping eyes
And heartbeat whys
Can't lose this story
The people came, the tall ships sailed
The boats all sank, the plans all failed
The brave men tried
And people died
But still they came back
Oh yes, they came back

[Solo].

Oh the hungry beasts
Have torn her heart out
Though still it beats
‘Tis ever quieter now
And no one weeps
But I, for the dying sea

But I, for the haunted ocean
