SELFISH CREATURES

[Slow, funky].

Selfish creatures
Hear them barking 'bout a cause
They flap on sand like dying fish
Go howling up at nailed doors
For all their zeal and energy
The mould was long since cast
And all those horns and scales and fangs
Are nothing but a mask

Selfish creatures
We know them so well, you and I
They'll tell you 'bout those deadly rays
A fallin' from the sky
Talk of ozone holes and whales
Flows off their tongues like liquid coals
Yet all this reason just don't rhyme
With the echoes from their souls

Selfishly, we are corrupted
Genetically, we are corrupted

Selfish creatures
They are just like all the rest
Would sell their souls to industry
For just one day of happiness
Don't tell me they've got principles
Like that's some kind of saving grace
These beasts would boil a sea away
To win a single taste

Selfishly, we are corrupted
Genetically, we are corrupted

Some glorify these creatures
Hold their memories in coloured stone
Yet 'neath the cloaks of red and green
Lies same familiar fragile bone
To snap it is an easy thing
Like a fossil brought to flame
An ancient forest set to burn
To relieve a loved one's pain
