Care for Kids ... and others!
Firstly, we consider the encouragement of our fishing juniors and sub-juniors to be one of our most important activities. As an inducement for them to fish all competitions, we waive their entry fees and on most occasions they are not charged for food. Yearly trophies are presented to these youngsters and we encourage experienced fishing members to assist their learning paths by passing on some of the finer points of fishing - rigs, bait, times to fish, where to fish, where not to fish, conservation, etc.
As an extension of this assistance to the younger folk in our community we conduct free weekend clinics for the kids from Camp Quality and Canteen Australia. These have proved to be very successful due, in no small part, to the unstinting and tireless support of many of our members who give up their time to ensure these weekends go as smoothly as possible. The generous contributions received from the business community, both financial and “in kind”, help make these events possible.
The enjoyment by the kids is our reward and many of them specifically request to return again and again. As part of our contribution to community service we run an annual Grey Power fishing clinic in conjunction with the Fisheries Department, held at our club and at our cost. The growing success of this particular event was indicated at a recent clinic when we had a “full house” with a number of people asking about the next clinic. The Junior Fishing Clinic has become so popular that we have made this a twice annual event.
